Like the life-changing realization that has occurred with COVID–19, the disturbing and unjustified death of George Floyd is demanding national attention. This and prior racially motivated incidents challenge us individually and as an association to understand and overcome the long-standing overt and covert inequities that plague our country and communities.
Greater Tampa REALTORS® (GTR) is committed to the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, Fair Housing, inclusivity and diversity. We walk arm-in-arm with REALTORS® across the country who are aligned with and committed to the values of the National Association of REALTORS®. Transcending rhetoric and appearances, REALTORS® are committed to upholding the practice of human decency, respect and fairness in our profession. As an organization of over 12,000 members, we stand firmly in support of Black communities and all cultures together who have suffered from discrimination and unfair practices.
Our condolences go out to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others who have been victims of similar acts of injustice. As our nation grapples for understanding, the tragic tipping point in our society presents an opportunity for us to boldly engage in difficult conversations with the intent of growing in a manner that is supportive of everyone.
With GTR’s initiative in establishing the Real Estate for All Alliance (REFAA), and our affiliation with all minority-based and special-interest real estate groups, we endeavor to continue to contribute the quest of positive solutions and actions that will help heal our community and make us all the better for it. We invite our members to join us in being among those points of light who uphold the mutually beneficial values of respect and human dignity in all that we do in our professional and personal lives.
